Malaysia’s renewable energy sector continues to gain strong momentum in 2026. According to a recent report by The Star, the industry is expected to maintain its growth through the second half of the year, driven by increased solar installations, greater adoption of battery energy storage systems (BESS), and growing electricity demand from data centres.
More than 10,000 Solar applications have been submitted…
The report also highlights that rooftop solar installations are expected to accelerate across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, supported by the SuRIA Home Solar Rebate Programme and rising electricity costs under the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) mechanism.
As of May 2026, more than 10,000 applications had already been submitted under the Solar ATAP programme, demonstrating the increasing number of Malaysian homeowners making the switch to solar.
